Sport, Peer Support, And Raising Funds and Awareness For Others Less Fortunate

So, the new episode of the podcast just went live. This month's guest is Chris Rains, who lost one of his legs during a horrible car crash. Chris and I talk about the role sports played in his recovery, the organisations that allowed him to try out various outdoor activities, and his participation in one of the Range of Motion Project's climbs to raise funds and awareness for others people affected by limb loss and limb difference.

Challenges are all in people's heads

 

Okay so obviously I'm not an amputee. I was born without the lower part of my left arm and just as someone with two hands would learn to use two hands I have learned to use one. It‘s all I've ever known and therefore I wouldn't allow myself to be phased by any tasks that someone with two hands might achieve. I think the main challenges are mental ones. When I was younger, I was not confident and felt like it was something I needed to hide. But you learn to accept it as you get older and then I started to see it as a positive. read more

Discrimination and Change

 

Anoushe Husain was born missing her right arm below the elbow, is living with multiple health conditions, is a cancer survivor, a Muslim and coming from an ethnic minority. She has never let what society or culture thinks she should do limit her or dictate the direction of her life. She is constantly breaking the mould and challenging not only her own beliefs about her own potential but also that of society and her own culture. In her last post we got to know her and her story.
